Sijmen Hendriks is a Dutch freelance photographer, based in Eanjum, the Netherlands, specialized in nature and bird photography. Also, since 1993, he has covered a wide range of subjects for various clients. Sijmen Hendriks is represented by photo agency ANP and Bridgeman Images.

‘Birds around the North Sea’ is the photoproject Sijmen Hendriks has been working on from 2014 untill 2019. Between Shetland and Sognefjord, Norway, and Calais in the south lies the North Sea. Seven countries have a North Seacoast. Both the coastal zone and the sea itself are of great importance for birds. ‘Birds around the North Sea’ aims to show the richness of the birdlife around the North Sea and the landscapes where these birds live. In 2019 a photobook has been published with the results of the project.

In 2024 Sijmen published a photobook on birds and extinction: ‘Over leven en uitsterven’ In this book he tells the stories of four birds: the story of an extinct bird, the great auk, the story of a nearly extinct bird, the northern bald ibis, the story of the ruff that disappeared from the Netherlands as a breeding bird. The last bird that is featured in his book is the black-tailed godwit, a bird that was once common in the Netherlands and is now under huge pressure .

‘Vogelparadijs Lauwersmeer’ was published in may 2026. This photobook shows the birds of one of nicest nature reserves and one of the best birding places of the Netherlands.
